A note from the Pastor

A few thoughts for you to ponder today.

Joel 1.3 instructs us to “tell your children about it, and let your children tell their children, and their children the next generation.”

Have you ever noticed how that some of today’s great baseball players are the children of former baseball legends, that many of the top Nascar drivers are sons of the original stock car pioneers, or that the sons of great boxing champions are now making a living in the ring.   My own life speaks to this in that my dad was a preacher, I became a preacher and now my son is a preacher.    This should alert us to the fact that the choices that we make as parents will have a profound impact on our family for many generations to come.

What is true in the natural world is also true in the spiritual realm as well. There is a certain expectation in Scripture that spiritual heritage will be treasured by each generation and transmitted to the next. David tells us this in Psalm 145:4 “Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts”.

We can look at this from two different viewpoints. The first is if you refuse to share the wonders of Christ, if you fail to live the gospel, if you hold a low value in your commitment to your church, be assured that the knowledge of God could be forever lost from future generations. That is a horrible thought. To be responsible for the darkness that will fill the hearts of our descendants due to our lack of interest in spiritual things. This can be seen in the present lawlessness we are seeing in our cities, where our youth have little influence from their elders but great influence from their peers.

On the positive side of this, if we purpose to instruct our children, to pass down to them the stories of God’s love, the wisdom of God’s word and the value of church life, it will continue on for generations to come. This is the only hope for the next generation, for our nation, and for our families.
